A Night on the Edge

One night, during junior year, Mark Goss and I were out cruising around in his pickup. For whatever reason, we wanted to leave a note for a classmate at her house. We knew this classmate lived on Garst Rd. but did not know the address. So we drove up and down Garst seeing if we could figure out which house was hers.

As it turned out, there was only one house on the street so we concluded that this must be the place. So we parked 50 or 100 feet away and snuck up to the house because we wanted to leave the note without her being aware that we were there.

There was a hedge directly in front of the house and we crept up to see if we could get to the door. The front door was open but there was a screen door in place and we could hear sounds coming from inside the house. As we were crouching by the hedge, a dog barked from inside. We froze. Luckily, someone from inside the house said something along the lines of, "Come back here, you bad dog." and Fido retreated into the house.

We had barely breathed a sigh of relief when a car pulled into the driveway, splashing us with the headlights as it turned in. Well, we knew that the jig was up so we stood up to ask if our friend was home. Before we had a chance to ask, the woman got out of the car, informed us that her husband was a sherrif's deputy and if we didn't leave right then, she would call him. So we meekly walked off to Mark's truck so we could get the heck out of there. When we got back we could not stop laughing about the whole affair.

The next day, Mark let our friend know about visiting her house the previous night. She told us we were on the wrong block of Garst. Not her house after all. Oops.

Litt Road or Rice Road?

Not much of a story, but more of a cruise down memory lane.........So, who actually lives where we use to party?  Don't remember, how about these names: Litt Road, Rice Road, St. Francis, Nelsons and who can forget Sandy Bottoms?  I think just about every spot we patronized, now has houses.  Let's face the facts, were getting old.

What about when we were chased out of our playground areas just to high tail it back to, where was it, Burger King on McHenry?  Isn't this a taco place now?  What about when Oakdale Road was the country?

How about Joe's Market or maybe Harbi's market?  Do these places actually exist anymore?  Probably not.

I really don't want to post any stories as I am afraid I will incriminate my self and others, if you were there, you still remember.  Unless of course it was Chris Levy, Chris Cervantes, Todd Newburn and myself running back to Matt Johnson's Bronco II when the police were clearing out St. Francis just to find that Matt had left as he was not quite feeling up to par.  So what did we do?  The four of us jumped into a Mazda RX7 with 2 others (yes we fit) just to be dropped at, you guessed it, Burker King on McHenry.  What a night.

Hey Chris Cervantes, do you still listen to the Scorpions?  Still Lovin' You was your song of choice, wasn't it? Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
